What You Need to Consider When Calling a Solar Maintenance Specialist

A solar energy system is a good investment among Australian homes. It is also gaining popularity in the United States, Canada, and all over the world. With people getting more concerned about the environment, such a technology that uses sustainable energy from the sun can have a good impact on our surroundings. Solar panels have a long life span and need little maintenance. But they are also prone to aging and damage. Yet with regular cleaning and proper maintenance, you can ensure that your solar energy system works at its best.

Here is what you need to consider when calling for a solar maintenance service.

Solar Panel Warranties

Most solar energy systems are covered by warranties. They are guarantees that your solar panels perform well and unlikely to malfunction for a certain period. The average lifespan of solar panels ranges from 20 to 25 years. Solar manufacturers typically cover the same warranty as to the lifespan of your solar panels. They are cases when the guarantee covers panel performance.

For example, the manufacturer guarantees that your solar panel will provide a peak power output of not less than 85% within the duration of its warranty. Other solar panel manufacturers offer a higher output level guarantee for a short period. An example may be an assurance that the solar energy system will provide 90% output for 10 years.

Solar panels also come with physical warranties. This is to protect the consumers’ rights against handling, residential solar panel installation waukesha wi, and manufacturing defects. They generally cover the first 5 years of operation. On the other hand, solar power inverters also come with a separate warranty. This is typically within 10 years.

Solar Panel Maintenance

It is highly recommended to have your solar energy system checked and inspected by a solar maintenance service specialist once or twice a year. This is depending on the age and condition of your solar energy system.

A solar energy system that has been in place for less than 5 years can be inspected annually. But any other solar energy system with an age of more than 5 years may need to be inspected before the spring and winter seasons.

If your area is constantly experiencing harsh weather like a hail storm, snow, and tornados, you may need a frequent inspection of your solar energy system. Having a specialist check and inspect your solar panels results in the discovery of potential issues. Addressing these small issues prevents you from spending money on costly repairs. Such maintenance steps also ensure that you are getting the best out of your solar energy system.

Cleaning Your Solar Panels

Generally, natural rain keeps your solar panels clean. As they pour, they wash away the debris and dirt of the solar panel glasses installed on your roof. Though, you will also need to do a regular clean-up of your solar panels. This is to ensure that there is no debris and dirt left on it that can block the sunlight. It is also to have the chance of spotting any visible signs of damages on your solar panels.

Solar panels are made of photovoltaic (PV) cells. They perform best when they have unobstructed access to sunlight. Even a small residue can affect their performance. Thus, it is highly recommended to do a solar panel clean-up every month or every 3 to 4 months depending on the location.

You have two options to clean your solar panels. First, do-it-yourself using a soft brush dip in purified water. You may also use a biodegradable and water solution. Gently wipe the surfaces of your solar panel to remove debris, dirt, and dust. Do not use abrasives and chemicals as they can damage the glass panels. Avoid using pressure washers that may cause your solar panels to crack. Lastly, don’t forget that applying pressure on your solar panels like stepping on them can also cause cracks and damages.
