There is no denying that home improvement matters can be quite stressful no matter how you slice it. Considering the number of responsibilities that a homeowner has at any given point, having to deal with home improvement alongside can be a bit of a harrowing prospect – especially for those who believe that home improvement is only possible as a drastic and expensive project.

That said, there is no reason to pull your hair out from frustration to get the job done. Making improvements to your humble abode and stress might be commonly associated with each other, but they do not have to go hand in hand. Here are just a few ways to take the stress away from home improvement.

If cleaning projects are too tough, consider hiring professional services

First and foremost, it would be a good idea to keep your home as clean as possible before considering any type of home improvement. Sometimes, an organized home is all a homeowner needs, and they might not even look to home improvement afterward!

That said, there are some cleaning projects that might be a little too much to handle, such as anything involving heavy pieces of junk. In such cases, the best thing to do would be to hire Evergreen Junk Removal, as their assistance can help ease much of the stress during the home cleaning process. Junk furniture can be difficult to handle, and it is something that is often best left to the professionals.

When it comes to home improvement, work smart!

The common misconception that home improvement requires a drastic change is the reason why so many people tend to ignore their desire to add anything to their houses. Such a thing could not be farther from the truth, as there are ways to help make improvements without necessarily having to spend too much. A few examples include:

  • The focal point. Focusing on the center point of any given room can help you narrow your efforts and make general improvement much cheaper. For example, knowing that improving the bed in the master bedroom can elevate the rest of the look means you only have to focus on the bed.
  • The use of glass furniture. One of the big advantages of glass furniture is that it can make a relatively small space look spacious. You do not have to use too much, as a few items in strategic locations can get the job done.
  • The power of plants. It would be wise not to underestimate house plants, as they have plenty to offer the stressed homeowner. Not only do they breathe new life into a house, but also offer a relaxing new look without having to pay a substantial amount.

Taking the stress away from home improvement can be quite easy, provided you are willing to focus on aspects that make the most impact for the least amount of effort. With the right preparations, home improvement can be a joy rather than a stressful endeavor.

You and your spouse have finally decided to take the plunge on a vacation home. You have your heart set on a particular locale, but you haven’t decided whether to buy or build. You do know that you want to rent the property when you are not using it. Just know that your options for renting may influence your decision to buy or build.

Should you choose to build, the architects at Park City Utah’s Sparano + Mooney recommend discussing rental plans with your designer in the early stages. There may be things your architect can do to make the house more attractive to renters without negatively impacting your enjoyment of the property.

With that said, here are your four options for renting a vacation home:

  • 1. Buy or Build in a Vacation Community

It is not unusual to find entire vacation communities in popular tourist destinations. These are communities built by developers specializing vacation homes. Almost all of the homes are owned by people who do not live there year-round. They live elsewhere and contract with the property developer to maintain their homes, manage the rentals, etc.

This option in readily available in most of the tourist destinations in Florida. In fact, it is an option in most densely populated tourist locales. But in places like Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, there aren’t as many of these communities to choose from.

The other downside is that the developer may eventually want out. Then the community would have to hire a property manager to take over.

  • 2. Hire a Property Manager Directly

If you don’t like the vacation community idea, you can always buy or build on a separate piece of land and then hire a property manager directly. You might choose to buy in a deed-restricted community or build on a more remote piece of property. Either way, the property manager handles everything for you.

The benefit of this sort of arrangement is being able to rent your home free from vacation community rules. If you want to be as free as possible, just do not purchase in a deed-restricted community. HOAs in many communities are not friendly to vacation homeowners and their transient tenants.

  • 3. Handle Rentals Yourself

Your third option is to buy or build and then handle rentals yourself. There is no property manager involved, so you do everything. You work directly with renters to schedule arrivals and departures. You collect rental fees and security deposit. You handle marketing, maintenance, and everything else.

Contracting with a cleaning service means you will not have to visit the property at the conclusion of each rental. And of course, you can hire someone to cut the grass and trim the shrubs. Either way, you will be doing a lot more work under this model than you otherwise would under one of the previous two.

  • 4. Use a Broker

The fourth and final option is sort of a hybrid that combines hiring a property manager and doing everything yourself. It is the option to use a broker. The broker handles marketing, rental agreements, and payments. You are ultimately responsible for everything else. This model, combined with hiring people to clean and maintain the property, alleviates any need for you to do the actual work of being a landlord. All you have to do is manage those you have doing the work for you.

Now that you know your four options for renting, does that influence your plans for buying or building a vacation home? Hopefully, you are now in a better position to make the right choice.

One of the most prominent features of a house is the carpet. It keeps your floor warm, adds appeal, and makes the ambiance comfortable. Carpets help to improve the overall indoor air quality. It provides the home with a slip-resistant layer. When the condition of a carpet is good, it adds beauty and style to a house.

It should get regularly maintained and cleaned too, just like any other item found in your home. You have to take care of it so that it remains in a good condition for a long period. Yet do you know how much to stretch carpet since it is one of the most critical maintenance routines to follow?

Cost of carpet stretching in general

Carpet stretching cost depends on how old your carpet is or whether it’s just one or many rooms that you need to get the stretching done. The average cost would be between $40 and $80 for one room. Costs again vary from one company to another. Ensure that you pick a company that’s experienced and has skilled workers who know how to get the job done adeptly.

Benefits:

Provides safety

When carpets get bumps or ripples, they tend to pose a safety threat, especially when you have children, pets, or old members in your family. To avoid serious injuries, it would be better to even out the carpet so that your home is a safer zone. It averts the chances of people tripping unknowingly or suddenly.

Longevity of carpet

It is expected for carpets to wear and tear with time. But if it is not installed properly, it will wither down faster, thus having to get replaced sooner than expected. This is why carpet stretching helps to smoothen bumps or wrinkles. It also helps to fend off dust or soil which settles in uneven sections. All of this will slow down the rate of deterioration.
